::Drum n Bass Releases::

[SBOYLP002]

Breakage : Foundation LP : Digital Soundboy : 2x12"

Breakage aka James Boyle is never been one to be pigeonholed. Moving effortlessly through styles from drum and bass to dubstep, Breakage has proved himself to be one of the most versatile operators in either scene to date. A prodigious talent, he already has a number of classic releases under his belt but continues to develop his sound. Combining rich tones and a sense of spaciousness in the mix, Breakage's music is both subtle yet devastatingly effective. His debut album, 2006's 'This Too Shall Pass' gained wide spread critical acclaim and included some slower tempo material, hinting at what was to come. *  James signed with Shy FX's mighty Digital Soundboy imprint in 2007, and soon turned heads with the haunting half-time beats of 'Clarendon b/w Shroud'. It came as no surprise that he would make waves in the dubstep community with his next release, 'Callahan b/w Untitled', after having remixed one of the scene's biggest tracks to date, Benga & Coki's 'Night', alongside Shy FX as Digital Soundboy. 2009 has seen Breakage cemented himself as 'one to watchʼ across the British dance music press and taste-making elite. Previous releases were named by Zane Lowe as his ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on his Radio 1 show. *  Following on from the superb 'Together', Breakage released ‘Run Em Oʼft. Roots Manuva b/w 'Higherʼin October 2009 to massive critical acclaim. Then came 'Hard' feat. Newham Generals and David Rodigan in early Dec, which exploded across the clubs and national airwaves, becoming unquestionably one of the biggest underground releases of 2009. *  RADIO PLAY: Radio 1, 1Xtra, Galaxy and Kiss FM from the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank, Giles Peterson, Ras Kwame, Toddla T, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mista Jam, Redlight, Sinden, DJ MK and many more. *  Now comes the highly anticipated sophomore LP 'Foundationʼ on Digital Soundboy. Features on the record come courtesy of Burial, Roots Manuva, David Rodigan, Newham Generals, Kemo, Zarif, Erin and more. Expect bass heavy quality music with a broad appeal. *  The new single ‘Speechless’ featuring Donaeo has already been described as a ground-breaking record, marrying dubstep and indie with emotive R&B vocals. With a European tour under way, plus remix & production credits for Massive Attack, Florence & The Machine, David Guetta, Virgin Records, Aswad, Sidney Sampson, and many more all forthcoming, Breakage has laid the foundation. Now he’s ready to blow... [3/15/2010]

[EXIT020]

System : Peach Fuzz : Exit : 12"

Mark System is by no means a newcomer to the music world having been performing as an MC and producing music for labels such as Digital Soundboy and Shogun Audio amongst others for over a decade. His debut on Exit Records consists of two tracks which underline his production skills and originality in sound design and arrangement. On the A-Side we have “Peach Fuzz”. A track created and named by System after attending and gaining inspiration from Carl Cox’s closing party at Space. He claims that Danny Tenaglia’s set stimulated him to think about new ways of approaching tracks. “Peach Fuzz“ was the result and what a result it was. This track oozes originality and is a pearl in the boxes of many top DJs at the moment such as dBridge, Instra:mental, Ed Rush, Commix, Friction etc. On the B-side we have “Voices” from System, which is an elaborate workout of glitchy beats, choppy break edits and curious melodies. This track is far from formulaic, having been started as an experiment to vent creative juices with no intention of it leaving his computer, were glad it did! [3/15/2010]

[C4CLTDUK003]

Cause 4 Concern : Something Else (Break Remix) / Sensor (N.Phect Remix) : C4C Recordings : 12"

SOMETHING ELSE / SENSOR – BREAK REMIX. Already established and exemplary in the tricky art of tune fusion, here badman Break takes two of C4C’s older numbers to create a monstrous slice of music: he’s lifted the best parts from both tracks and beefed it all up with some Break style biz, resulting in a relentless roller that drops twice to hit you hard in all the right places. SOUL – N.PHECT REMIX There’s no doubt that halfstep tunes are hot right now, but most of them are original compositions, not remixes. Here N.Phect reinterprets Soul and strips it of its speed and intensity, but not its substance. Now it has a brand new attitude and tempo, while that unmistakable C4C funk is retained and keeps things recognisable. Future Funk. [2/15/2010] [3/15/2010]

Code 3 : Living Proof / Response Call : Exit : 12"

Finish copy. Living Proof sees Code 3 come with their next eagerly awaited lesson in subtle dance floor devastation. A paranoia inducing soundscape sets the scene, combining with an ever-building groove that takes the listener further into the depths with each ugly turn. Dropping with a wall of sub bass, it’s clear why this tune is also known as the 'rig tester'. Choice effects, distorted fizz and hits bounce off one another giving the track an irresistible groove and a real heads down feel. The sub bass assault is unrelenting and demands the listeners undivided attention. Hurting the clubs worldwide and included by dBridge & Instra:mental in their Fabric Live 50 mix CD, Living Proof is a tune you need in your box right now. From the off the organic and springy Bristol inspired drums reveal that this track is poised to be a heavyweight roller, perfect to kick off any set. The sub creeps in almost immediately and the intention is clear, this one’s made for skanking. A constantly evolving and morphing bass line layered upon funky edits and retro sound effects will have people moving throughout. Response Call completes another must have record from Code 3, ones to watch very closely this year. [3/15/2010]

[CRIT044]

FD / Hydro & Keza : Canopy : Critical Music : 12"

New blood alert! Bringing through yet more untapped talent is the people’s choice, Critical Music, who bring us the debut release from a trio of boxfresh producers that’s already been doing damage with those lucky enough to have it. With FD being one of the brains behind possibly the most forward-thinking drum and bass event in London, Medium, you know before listening the force is strong on this one. Beautifully breezy pads open up ‘Canopy’ and a straight down the line break gets things moving nicely as added percussion seaps in along the way before the drop. Out go the pads and in comes a refreshingly spacious arrangement of percussive FX and thumping deep subs perfect for those dark late-night dance floors. Wait for the sumptuous atmospherics to return and you can’t help but be swept away by the groove as it carries us all the way to the end. A bit special. Then on to ‘Remorse’ and the guys spook things out a little with a ghostly whispered samples and an off-kilter break rolling under paranoid synth stabs and pads. As more booming subs kick in the pace picks up with shuffling snares and heavily filtered sonics that fill the speakers to drive it forward hard, while still retaining a huge sense of space that’ll see this in the DJ boxes at the deeper end of the spectrum. [PRINT001]

Zero T & Bailey  : Wasp Factory : Footprints Music : 12"

Introducing the new label ‘Footprints’ from Zero Tolerance set to launch in the next few months. Two big first releases to showcase, audio can be found below, first, over to Zero T to introduce the label….. We at FOOTPRINTS are setting our stall out to provide something we feel has been missing from the zeitgeist for too long now…. That something is “90’s Music”…..yes folks, its been 10 years since the 90s and we for one miss it more than ever. It was a time when music metamorphasized into so many wonderful, radical, heartfelt and completely new forms. Unfortunately, life and culture moves in cycles and i think we can all agree that the “noughties” was a largely forgettable era for ALOT of reasons. The complete dominance of consumerism in our world has , combined with the Net 2.0 revolution, sucked much the life out of this thing we call music. But every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and if Rage Against The Machine making the UK Christmas No.1 in 2009 is a signal of the backlash, the we at FOOTPRINTS hope to assist this return to an older Ethic: Motivated from the Heart , not the Wallet. So, in this new Decade we aim to regularly provide you with music made for your mind AND body, that will shake any building to its foundations but still stand alone as a piece of music, taking you to another place, time or mood when heard in its entirety. Deep, bass driven melody, sweeping strings, haunting vocals, gorgeous synth touches give ‘Three’s A Crowd’ an opulent yet eerie feel. Drumsound & Bassline Smith : Clap Ya Hands : Technique : 12"

White label. Get ready for the first essential record of 2010! Coming from Derby's premier production powerhouse, 'Clap Ya Hands' is unlike any d&b tune you've heard in last 5 years.  Cranking up the good-time gospel vibes with live claps and the kind of infectious piano riff that will have revellers dancing in the aisles, this is a good-time dancefloor bomb guaranteed to start the party. And if that wasn't enough, Phetsta takes the track into even headier heights with his hi-octane remix, the house heads are well catered for with the bumping four-to-the-floor re-rub and Derby's finest also provide a dubstep reworking that takes the original's happy clappy approach, and throws straight into the gutter. Earning her stripes in the midst of the UK’s grime scene, she has already produced for the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Jammer and Lady Sovereign and she is undoubtedly one of the Anti Social Entertainment clique’s brightest prospects alongside Quest, Silkie, Kromestar, J5, Harry Craze and Heny G. Mizzy’s debut 12” on DEEP MEDi Musik showcases both her versatility and a lightness of touch that belies her years. ‘My World’ marries sloping half-step drums, offhand tom rolls and cleverly constructed synth work, conjuring a wickedly melodious groove. On the flip, ‘The Jester’ zips off in a different direction, carried by tougher, stripped-back drums and myriad 8-bit Gameboy bleeps, zaps and bumps. An altogether clubbier affair, but no less sophisticated, fans of Gemmy and Joker will undoubtedly approve. [3/15/2010]

Reso : Reso In Da Mix : Z Audio : CD

After the runaway success of the first “In Da Mix” CD from Bar 9 the second instalment is here and is mixed by none other than Reso!!!  Reso In Da Mix is a journey into the heart of Dubstep with tracks from Riskotheque, Bar 9, Bare Noize, Proper Tingz, Mike Lennon, 501, Rob Sparx, Reso & ID, Hektagon, Synkro, Soul Sinners, L.O.W, F-One, Mode, Nero, Numbernin6, Vivek and TRG.Grotty, liquid, dark, brutal and lush are all words used to describe the music of 25 year-old Reso, such a contrasting set of adjectives are hard to understand but after a listen to a few of his productions, you begin to understand why. A drummer at heart, these natural patterns of “skin hitting” are engrained within his brain and shine through on his digital programming and productions. Reso’s aural identity is a densely layered, high octane tapestry, rich with musical texture and colour, which really sets him apart from the minimal sparseness of many of his fellow producers. Mary Anne Hobbs has been a fervent supporter of the young producer, commissioning a special 20-minute mix for her Radio One Breezeblock show back in January 2007. Reso is certainly one of the most technically gifted producers to have sprouted from the dubstep scene and is fast gaining recognition from the techno, glitch and breaks scene for his own twisted take on the dubstep/ 130bpm-140bpm sound. Recently Reso’s remix of Buraka Som Sistema and Rob Sparx 2 Faced Rasta song (which have both been featured on the Fabriclive 42: freq nasty cd) alongside Reso’s own production “if ya cant beat em” have been gathering strong support from some of Dubstep’s key players such as Benga, N-Type and Rusko. He has also worked with the enigmatic producer Burial, engineering his critically acclaimed remix of Jamie Woon’s Wayfaring Stranger. With a busy DJ schedule, Reso has been up and down the country smashing dance floors from Newcastle to Nottingham and London, whilst regularly hitting mainland Europe. With a number of key releases on Storming Productions, Destructive and Urban Graffiti Reso has now become part of the Civil family and is currently writing his album for release in 2009. Reso is the soundtrack to a robot genocide [3/15/2010]

[HDB030]

DVA : Natty : HyperDub : 12"

Rinse FM’s breakfast show host, DVA is a producer with a unique take on the UK Funky bug, blending the stiff 8-bar funk of grime with a super-supple rhythmic sensibility, sewing neon colours with a laid back precision into his tracks. 'Natty' is a prime example; drums stagger like they’re about to topple over, squelchy bass synths lock together a tough tribal drum pattern, liquid metal trickles around in the mix, and these contrasting elements react with explosive results on the dancefloor. On 'Ganja', a cartoonish ring-tonefriendly synth melody worms its way around tight soca-esque drums and housey organ stabs. Factor in the depth-charge 808 subs, steel drums and sparingly used ragga chat and you've got a technicolour Hyperdub debut fresh for 2010. [3/15/2010]

Ghettozoid [Blue Daisy Rmx] : Seeking feat Yolanda : One4Ho : 12"

Finish copy. The label is called ‘One4Ho’. The origins of it’s name came from a seminal summer in Berlin, where Sophie Ruston (Ghettozoid) and Mai Harper (label founders) first laid eyes on each other. The name One4Ho incorporates Ghettozoid’s obsession with Miami Bass. Essentially we are ladies that love the 140tempo. IDJ mag review: Bristol resident Ghettozoid brings in fêted vocalist Yolanda to help launch her One 4 Ho imprint. Moody washes of midrange synth provide an ample background for Yolanda's stunning vocal spiritual, clockwork garage breaks and thunderous bass thrum adding a dash of urgency to the mix. Crackle house specialist Blue Daisy turns in a sick remix on the flip, dubbing the track hard as he stretches the samples tautly across his canvas - ambient vocal excursions eventually joined by a burrowing acid bassline and Daisy's trademark squeezed beats. a Ghettozoid - Seeking feat Yolanda Original b1 Ghettozoid - Blue Daisy rmx b2 Ghettozoid - Teknoist 'His Marbles' [3/15/2010]

Seven is an upcoming artist who’s releases on Aquatic Lab triggered some attention he has since been working heavily on collabs with N-Type and... Youngsta, who isn’t famed for his productions, more for his expert DJ skills showcased regularly on Rinse FM. ‘Masiamara’s atmospheric intro is classic Youngsta vibes, deep, dark and heavyweight, reminiscent of SP:MC’s recent output, rolling drums and a funky bass line. Support on this one from N-Type, Walsh, Benga etc. Wicked tune! N-Type joins in for the flip with ‘The Story’ a slipping, sliding, tearout dancefloor smasher!! White label.  Redlight is a Bristol-based artist navigating the unnamed airspace between house, breakbeats, dubstep and other well-loved dance music sounds.  Having already crafted a handful of jet-propelled bangers which have won over early fans and followers including Skream, Toddla T, Jack Beats, Goldie, Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Annie Mac Redlight now looks set to become a high-flyer. Redlight has spent more recent weeks putting in some serious studio time working on solo productions; collaborations with Rusko and fellow Bristol boy Ben Westbeech; as well as remixes of Roots Manuva, Little Boots, Pendulum, Toddla T, Hockey, Athlete. [CON027]

MRK1 : The Electrician : Contagious Music : 12"

Smothered in trademark atmospheric stealth and slither, Move Your Soul has MRK1 making fanfares for imperial squadrons, and intercepting vintage female dance vocals in a hostage situation as he darts in and out of another of his chrome mazes. Remember when Peter Griffin from Family Guy is granted the wish of having his own theme music wherever he goes? MRK1 can conceivably pop round the newsagents to the sound of ominous intergalactic friction. Taken from the forthcoming potential lipsmacker Sound of Contagious album out soon, it stands in the gap between dubstep and electronica at its surliest, moving to an easy-to-follow path so that the mass of the situation becomes hard to take on the chin. In other words, it may move freely, but it still casts a serious shadow. Another album preview is The Electrician, which takes the rewiring of plugs to industrially draconian lengths. Synths are programmed to kick you both in the guts and your fillings as MRK1 walks the plank of spinning blades with a crystal finish, operated by a black-hearted Speak n Spell. Dubstep’s jackhammer blur of beats are dodged for a firm putting down of his foot while making the traditional aspect of dub stand out. It’s the sound of an extreme version of LaserQuest: complete with pinging crossfire across the bass wastelands, the power-packs are taking the weight of a real ready-to-go arsenal [3/15/2010]

[ACRESB003]

Akira Kiteshi : Ming The Merciless / ION-BRU : Special Branch : 12"

White label. Ming The Merciless – Possibly the Scottish highlander’s most brutal transmission to date, Ming opens with Manga dialogue mixed and mashed with durable bass-tones and grinding mid range. However… do not be fixated just on the light speed neon-clad dynamics because hidden within this 5 minutes drum break of chaos lies some serious cutnpaste edit skills. Often confused with tear-out Dubstep AK is keen to define his sound as “Skag Den Breakcore” or “Very Unhappy Hardcore”. Drop this and introduce some Darwinism to the dance. ION-BRU – Again AK’s itchy feet go on a genre wander splicing elements of Electro, Garage, Dubstep and house. What begins as a solid (if glitchified) half-stepper twists and coils in on itself until transforming into a flat out electro-breaks barnstormer. [3/15/2010]

[OFFROAD007]

501 : The Eyes Never Lie / Downplay : Off Road : 12"

White label. Following on from his success in 2009 with 'Insanity' on Chase & Status' label and his anthemic 'Mind Control' for Offroad, 501 fires off his first bullets of 2010. 'The Eyes Never Lie' opens with high-tension strings and taut drums that set you up for one almighty drop - a Triple-Changer Transformer bassline, first searing midrange, then sick wobbles, then yawning grumble-bass. 501 even hooked up a heart monitor to check you're still alive! 'Downplay' on the flip is even more direct, growling metallic bass and synth-tech action snarling away over tuff breaks, interlaced with pounding 808s and offbeat cowbells. [3/15/2010]

[PIG002]

SFR : Tourette Step / Binary Crunch : Guinea Pig : 12"

Nearly 3 years on from its debut release Guinea Pig returns with a new release and a new artist. Why the long wait? We were just waiting for the right producer to join Bogeyman to make this more than just a one artist label, and in SFR we've definitely found him! This man might be from Cape Town, but he has the sound of Croydon running through his veins! South African producer SFR has been making all kinds of electronic dance music over the past 5 years, and with releases on several notable Drum and Bass labels, has been finely honing his skills. Infected by the dubstep bug early on, over the past 3 years SFR has turned his attentions to the slower end of the bpm scale, and the results have been some of the dirtiest dubstep riddims we've heard in a while! Tourette Step and Binary Code are two slice of unadulterated dancefloor dubstep, with serious bassline trickery, slammin' beats and of course that all important sub! [3/15/2010]

LV & Untold [Mount Kimbie] : Beacon : Hemlock : 12"

The much in demand collab by LV & Untold finally hits wax, back with a stunning Mount Kimbie remix. LV & Untold – Beacon - Possibly the most minimal tune to date by either artist, Beacon rolls on a bare bones set-up of deep swung bass, barely-there percussion and simple bleep-track melody. In the true spirit of the original dubstep pioneers, making very little, sound very BIG. LV & Untold Beacon (Mount Kimbie Remix) - Mount Kimbie deliver a stunning remix. Layering a heap of their trademark melody onto the intro, following that with an instantly memorable rave hook, then easing us out gently with some sweeeet R&B inflected chopped vocals. [BMF001]

Sami Sanchez  : Dirty Trumpet : BM Funky : 12"

It was not the hand of chance which secured Sami Sanchez’s place in today’s DJs and producers arena as one of the freshest, most promising up-and-coming names. Sanchez got his first gig at a street party in Cuba. Playing a mixture of Reggaeton, hip hop, Garage and Ragga, he knew right there and then his future was in music. Whilst at University, studying a degree in Sound Engineering, Sami Sanchez starting working at the cult-status record store Black Market Records (currently BM Soho). Sami soon started extending his musical expertise to DnB, US house and the then-newly developed Dubstep and UK Funky. Combining his urban musical expertise and his Latin roots influences, Sami quickly progressed and started playing at top Latin club nights. He imminently became a favourite on the Urban Latin scene, playing alongside DJs such as Tony Touch, DJ Nelson, DJ Buddha, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, Andy Boy and Khrisy Angel. It was in 2009 when Sami suffered an acute brain injury, but through sheer determination and strong will to live, he is continuing to follow his dream. Only eight months later, we are proud to announce Sami Sanchez’s first official UK Funky release, ‘Dirty Salsa’ & ‘Dirty Trumpet’. Supported by Worldclass Management & BM Soho, the double A-side 12” is already causing a stir on the dancefloor. The dramatic, catchy ‘Dirty Trumpet’ and the hit-sy ‘Dirty Salsa’ are no doubt building Sami Sanchez’s reputation as one of the UK’s finest UK Funky producers. With a string of releases to come, a huge following of music loving fans - and with Sami’s determination to make it to recovery - we are pleased to welcome back the people’s DJ and the phenomenal cross-genre producer that is Sami Sanchez. [HENCH013]

Jakes / Mensah : Rhythm / Pulse 80's : Hench : 12"

The explosion of dubstep in the UK (and Bristol in particular) has dictated that the standard of production and new ideas is fiercely competed. Nevertheless, HENCH is one label that remains at the forefront of this ever-expanding scene. The 13th release from the imprint presents an outstanding 12” comprising of ‘Rhythm’ from label boss, Jakes, along with the debut release from Bristol’s rapidly rising star, Mensah. These tracks both feature on the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1 (soon to be released). The compilation is to be mixed by Jakes and will feature unreleased tracks from Papa ‘ench himself. The release will contain new exclusive tracks from Komonazmuk, Chasing Shadows, Lost and Giant, as well as providing a platform for debut releases on the label from Minus, Tek-one and Mensah. A. JAKES - RHYTHM is the name, and you can bet your bottom dollar that this tune has it. Immediately setting the step, a background siren gives the warning for what’s about to follow. With Jakes’ vocal defining the riff of the track, get ready for a bassline that’s best described as ‘underwater funk’. This tune’s had a lot of love from all the right people, and it’s not hard to see why – with Jakes’ innovative flavour stamped all over it - Rhythm truly stands out in the crowd. AA. MENSAH - PULSE 80’s - Flip over for the bass-led rhythm of ‘Pulse 80’s’. Building the intro with a glitchy lead-synth and punchy kick-drum, nothing detracts from the simple yet effective pulse of the beat. When the bass drops, expect the dancefloor to be bouncing up and down in time. Showcasing Mensah’s diverse influences, this is just one example of the various different styles of dubstep productions he’s producing right now. Watch out for further releases on HENCH from this young-one, we are tipping Mensah for big things. [3/15/2010]

[HENCH014]

Tek-One / Komonazmuk : Broken String / You Fo : Hench : 12"

For the HENCH camp, this is one very exciting release. Featuring the debut release on the label from Croydon producers, Tek-One, and yet another stunner from HENCH favourite, Komonazmuk. Both tracks exemplify what this label has become renowned for - bass-heavy, forward-thinking dubstep pressure – and it also happens that both tracks are absolutely killer! These tracks both feature on the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1 (soon to be released). The compilation is to be mixed by Jakes and will feature unreleased tracks from Papa ‘ench himself. The release will also contain new exclusive tracks from Komonazmuk, Chasing Shadows, Lost and Giant, as well as providing a platform for debut releases on the label from Minus, Tek-one and Mensah. A. TEK-ONE - BROKEN STRING This is one standout tune, recognisable from the off. A haunting synth with the kind of vocal rare in dubstep productions, brings you in gently to the drop. From there its all change – the drum roll makes way for a mechanical and glitchy bass riff that’s going to have people running for cover. With the occasional vocal stab, Tek-One’s effort is an outstandingly paradoxical release – both beautifully atmospheric and dancefloor-destroying at the same time. Having already remixed Way out West and Fugative, Tek-One are one’s to watch [3/15/2010]

[PSQ002]

Furesshu  : Untitled : Project Squared : 12"

This 12" picks up where Furesshu’s digital releases at a dubstep tempo on Echodub left off but also pushes into the deep, Berlin inspired techno sound that he is presently concentrating on. 1993 sounds fast for its mid 130s tempo, the bass drives the trackís pace and the delay affected stabs provide just enough melody. Horizons feels slower, you could perhaps describe it as a half step track although it twists up the formula for that sub genre. The bass evolves and changes throughout the track, rising and falling, coupled with drones and drums punctuating the track rather than providing a constant element. Untitled marks a change in Furesshuís sound. 4/4 deep techno; 11 minutes of gradual, constant evolution in the melodic parts of the track but the driving, perfectly toned kick drum and hi hats holding the groove in place. Belarussia's 4Kuba return for the third instalment of their storming Burning Cactus EP and the ninth release on iBreaks Bass, the imprint which showcases the harder side of the world's largest group of breakbeat labels. We reckon it's the tastiest of the series so far.  Coming on like the kind of beats you might hear dropped on the soundtrack to a Blade movie, "Dildoes" throws a massive electro rave riff over 4Kuba's trademark rock-flavoured drums for a slab of essential wax that will embed itself in your cerebellum. This one is guaranteed to top all the breaks charts going.  On the flip, "Combination" goes with a tough yet unorthodox approach that will be lapped up by fans of the duo. 4Kuba have the potential to be a Prodigy. Lee Coombs is a man who needs little introduction, a constant name and face on the dance music landscape since the mid-1990s he has played a major part in charting the ever changing course of electronic music. Now he gives us an insight into his sound of 2009 with this his latest opus in the form of third artist album 'Light and Dark'. Coombs musical history can't easily be scribed in a few lines; his journey as a DJ stretches back to the late 80s and the early days of acid house, his recording career encompasses his work for classic imprint Finger Lickin Records as well as Adrift and Lot49, not to mention of course his own Thrust Recordings which he ran for nearly a decade. He has put his name to mix compilations for the likes of Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto and remixed the likes of Moby, New Order, Lamb and Planet Funk. Coombs has travelled the world in the pursuit of his passion for music and has never the lost the enthusiasm for making great records and tearing up dancefloors.  'Light and Dark' is in Coombs own words "a true tech funk album", an amalgam of sounds and influences from dance music's often disparate scenes. Alongside acts like Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes and  Elite  Force,  Coombs  has pioneered this open minded attitude and helped  forge the sound of 'tech funk', a fusion of techno, breaks, house and electro. On this long player Coombs takes the tech funk spirit and deve ops it to the n'th degree, it is a true melting pot of influences, from the opening bars of the Diva driven Control with the wonderful Katherine Ellis to the final refrain of the heavily Echo & the Bunnymen inspired 'Blues I'm Singing'. Collaborations with the highly talented and spiritually inspired Seasunz rub shoulders with the massive Uberzone joint production 'Right Now' whilst the siren drenched sounds of 'Detox' and the squelching warehouse intensity of 'Moog Acid' all add up to make this a pretty special album indeed. [CRIT043EP]

Rockwell : Noir EP : Critical Music : 12"

Rockwell is a name on everyone’s lips. As if from nowhere he’s managed to get the whole drum & bass scene and more talking about him earning support from such luminaries as Fabio and Gilles Peterson. The ‘Noir EP’ comes not a moment too soon, a release to truly mark his arrival in electronic music and which looks set to turn even more heads. From the sheer sonic brilliance of the film score-inspired title track ‘Noir’ through to the skeletal break and sparse tendancies of the final ‘Tribe’, Rockwell is unfearing in his quest for dark, brooding experimentation that hasn’t been heard in years in drum & bass. An ambition to re-definine the term deep shines though on ‘Stay Calm’, a track that refreshes with glitchy FX, industrial pads and grounding bass that strikes the fear whilst the collaboration with Zero T ‘Bone Structure’ continues the theme with astounding results. Make no mistake people will double-take on this one. An extraordinary EP that will appeal to lovers of both electronica and pure drum & bass alike. Just add an arm-chair and headphones for maximum satisfaction. a Rockwell - Noir b Rockwell - Stay Calm c Rockwell Ft. Zero Tolerance - Bone Structure d Rockwell - Tribes [3/8/2010]

[SHA032]

V/A : Evolution Series Vol. 1 : Shogun Audio : 2x12"

Hitting the switch on disc one is the mighty Spectrasoul boys who are drawn in to remix the classic ‘Overtime’ by label-mates Friction & K-Tee. Sprinkling their magic dust over it the duo come up trumps with a sumptuous subtle re-working with added piano and all-round lighter vibes but with that all-important drifting vocal refrain thankfully still intact. A very tidy update indeed. Flip over for a very different kind of track from Germany’s biggest D&B producers, Phace. ‘Strange Science’ is a prime example of their trademark neurofunk sound. Raw, industrial percussion combines with running breaks, space-age synths and an absolute smacker of a bassline to get things pumping!  Spectrasoul then return on the C-side with the beautiful ‘Bygones’. A DJ-friendly intro paves the way to a lush drop of warm bass and a melancholic vocal that falls out soon after to make way for some sick bass edits. Wait for the breakdown and the return of the vocal and there’s no doubting this to be a truly classy slice of music. It’s left to Icicle to finish us off in typically fine form with ‘Minimal Funk’. Opting for a more leftfield percussive arrangement, heavy kicks and some growling undertones this one’ll make you wince! One for the headz, one for the Shogun Audio soldiers. *  TRACKLIST: A) Friction & K-Tee 'Overtime (Spectrasoul rmx)' B) Phace 'Strange Science' C) Spectrasoul 'Bygones' D) Icicle 'Minimal Funk' [2/8/2010]

[EXIT019]

Abstract Elements : Wrong Way / Abysmal Depth : Exit : 12"

The first release for 2010 on Exit records comes in the form of two tracks by Russian newcomers Abstract Elements, made up of two producers Bop and Diagram. Their tracks caught the attention of label owner dBridge with their seemingly fearless quest for experimentation and have featured heavily in the sets of DJs such as dBridge, Instra:mental, Loxy, ASC and also on the Autonomic podcasts. Both tracks sit just as comfortably at clubs such as FWD as they do in an all out DnB party. “Wrong Way” takes us into a void of sound and space, built around a metronomic radar blip, the track sinks down deep through the uncharted depths of the subsonic bass realms. Attention to detail, intricate use of atmospheric sound effects and devastating low end bass give this track a unique sensation which just cannot be ignored. Repeated listening is required to fully explore the vast soundscape that they have created here. “Abysmal Depth” could be described as a distorted fusion of dub and electronica but also delves into the 4x4 genre. Once again, their use of constantly transforming effects and mood altering atmospherics give this track the quality of being able to take the listener on a journey and leaves them with an awkward sense of not knowing exactly where they’ve just been. Check out the Farbric Live 50 -dBridge & Instra:mental present Autonomic CD to see just how versatile this track be work in the mix. [3/8/2010]

Cabbie & Ludegoo : Ain't Heard This Before : Sudden Def : 12"

Cabbie has been in the D&B games for 12 years, but now seems to be the time that all that hard work is about to well and truly pay off! This is our first single of 2010 and also Cabbie’s debut on the Sudden Def label but his pedigree was spotted many years back with releases on Moving Shadow and Chronic helping to guide him on his early path. Over the last year Cabbies beats have been smashing the dances worldwide with NAM, Ganja, Frontline, Function & Bad Taste being a few of the imprints providing the platform. ‘Ain’t Hear This Before’ is the second time Cabbie & Ludegoo have collaborated, their first was ‘Stiletto’ on Chronic. This single is only going to heighten the focus on this artist as both tracks have been causing mayhem in the crowds over the last few months, receiving great support from Hype, Randall, Hazard, Clipz, Bryan Gee, Bailey, Fabio, Shy FX, Modified Motion, Taxman and Original Sin. Chook : Demon Remix (Original by Babyoil) / Cocoon : Full Force : 12"

Chook is that artist, and The Cocoon, Chook’s debut long-playing project, moves beautifully through drum & bass, minimal techno and stunning ambient soundscapes without pausing for breath. The Cocoon is the culmination of half a decade’s worth of hard work. Starting out in 2004, Chook launched Full Force Recordings as an output for the fierce and disturbing side of European techno influenced drum & bass. The label garnered support right from the off with DJs as diverse as Roni Size, J Majik and Calyx & Teebee all queuing up to work Full Force’s releases into their sets. Chook, alongside friends such as Germany’s Phace (Subtitles), New Zealand’s State of Mind (Shogun Audio) and USA’s Mayhem (Ram Records) put the label firmly on the map with tracks from some of the world’s finest breakbeat artists, keeping the music policy as credible, long-lasting D&B. Now, five years since he started Full Force, Chook delves deeper into his influences, spreading his wings as a producer without resorting to cheap tricks and sheep-like trend following. From the growling bass of Optimus Prime through to the inchperfect elements of Time Running Backwards and the building, spacious progression of Toontown, The Cocoon is a lesson in staying true to your beliefs and sticking the middle finger to those who dare question your motives. Some might consider that a lost art in drum & bass these days. a Chook - Demon Remix (Original by Babyoil) b Chook - Cocoon [3/8/2010]

[GILLAEP001]

Gein : The Clergy EP : Guerilla : 2x12"

Since their inception on Moving Shadow, Gein has taken the world by storm, spewing out a devastating arsenal of mind-bending, eardrum-splitting chaos to be heard on the hardest, darkest drum & bass labels the genre has to offer. Now back in the bunker, Gein prepares for the release of their 2nd EP, THE CLERGY on GUERILLA RECORDINGS. Featuring a trio of heart-stopping collaborations with NANOTEK, BREAKER and DIVERGE; as well as a devastating remix of the Killwaukee trio's "Warden" (previously released on GUERILLA 003) by the South African ALGORYTHM generals, COUNTERSTRIKE, THE CLERGY is coming to recruit, and they'll intoxicate minds and destroy brains by any means necessary. The title track, "THE CLERGY" (featuring label owner, BREAKER and newcomer, DIVERGE) is a cataclysm of raw, unrelenting energy. Forward-driven drums, mash-ups and explosive bass run this track, exposing the world to the key elements that GEIN is composed of. Highly anticipated "THE SERMON" finally sees the light of day after being on dubplate for months on end. Brutal bass and bone snapping drums roll on through before NANOTEK/GEIN collaboration THE MASTER rolls on through and cuts through your cerebellum, causing an aneurysm. Old school darkness and deviously clever drum edits smash the mirage of a good life to pieces, proclaiming "A HORROR TO ALL MEN THAT SEEK FAITH." And as this vicious four-tracker comes to an end, COUNTERSTRIKE provides excellent remix quality on WARDEN. Think of it like taking your last breath... The final nail in the coffin. WARDEN REMIX starts off with a crescendoing build followed by militant tear-out drums and neck-snapping bass, that roll through like a bat out of hell. Hobzee & Zyon Base : Viral / Nothing Else Matters : IM:Ltd : 12"

In drum and bass, things happen quickly. Overnight success comes with one big tune, new labels spring up almost every day, and tracks are declared old news before they have even been released. But even by these standards, IMT:LTD are making serious moves. With seven releases, including two EP's, to their name since dropping in May this year, the French label celebrate the unprecedented success of their digital venture with this, their first vinyl release to date. This is a big moment for the label, and the pair of tracks represented here are of the calibre we have come to expect from these guys.  On 'Viral', Hobzee teams up with Zyon Base for a chilled out roller that'll put the cones through their paces on even the biggest systems. A twisted, growling melody and atmospheric background synths fill the mix up nicely.  Stepping with a little more bounce on the B-side, Hobzee goes it alone with 'Nothing Else Matters'. On a big, wobbly vibe that falls just the right side of silly, this one is sure to bring the dancefloor up a notch when it drops. Those who go for the digital release can look forward to a bonus track in the form of Hobzee & Zyon Base's 'Black and White Movie'. This one's on ice until release day - buy the download to hear it! Vital Elements(V2E) : Cosmic Beings / Murderation : Grid : 12"

White label. Vital Elements is back on Grid with something different. Moving away from the straight up dancefloor sound he has become renowned for, Vital lands on earth with two rollers from another galaxy. Cosmic Beings combines lush late 90s pads, dreamy keys, and a sublime female vocal with rolling jungle beats and a enough sub bass to rattle the entire solar system. On Murderation Vital pulls his inspiration from the other end of the jungle spectrum, getting dark and grimey. With nods to the inspirational sounds of early Metalheadz productions on the intro the drop is very dark and cantankerous. [3/8/2010]

Joy Orbison : The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow : Aus Music : 12"

Joy Orbison has been celebrated for finding a sound that marries elements of house, two-step, jungle, techno and dubstep. Alongside the release of the gargantuan “Hyph Mngo” (released on Hot Flush in late 2009 and has topped the end of year charts across the globe) and material on his own imprint Doldrums, notorious mixes for Radio 1 have only served to cement Joy Orbison’s renown. Both ‘The Shrew’ and ‘So Derobe’ pick up where ‘Hyph Mngo’ blasted off… devilishly catchy melodies and basslines, full of feeling and soul, evolve and grow as the arrangement develops to leave you on an almighty high. Big drops, super heavy drum programming and grooves that sound like only Joy Orbison right now. There’s shades of garage, shades of funky, shades of old school R&B. Pete wears his influences on his sleeve yet re-wraps them in his own unmistakable and truly unique style. Actress’s Neu Haus refix is the perfect foil for this package. A raw, almost unconstructed tool that in the right hands will create huge tension on the floor. Actress, aka, Darren J. Cunningham has in the last 5 years of running the Werk label set himself apart as one of the hottest A&R scouts within his field, having discovered and released some of the most widely talked about artists of the emerging bass generation, namely Disrupt, Zomby, Lukid and Starkey. As actress he produced the exceptional “Hazyville LP” drawing cries for a Mercury Award Nomination. Donae'o [Skream Remix] : Riot Music : Digital Soundboy : 12"

[Pre-Order only] White label. Donae’o aka Ian Greenidge was always destined to make a career out of music after growing up in a house where melodies were a major force. During his teens Donae’o would release a few singles, most notably Fallin' and Bounce on various imprints. *  Both singles made an impact on the underground, with Bounce winning an award for Best Live P.A at the People’ Choi Awards in 2003. All of this set the foundations for Donae’o’s future success. *  A few years later an older, wiser and more business savy Donae’o penned a tune called Devil In A Blue Dress, and was to kick-start his career once again and have a major impact on the UK underground. From Devil In A Blue Dress, came his critically acclaimed Party Hard album, an mixture of beats, rich with his trademark heavy soulless and killer choruses. The lead single off the album also called Party Hard, became a massive hit in the clubs and on specialist radio, winning him champions across the board and throughout the British music press. * A self-confession work-a-holic, Donae’o has also maintain 100% control over his own career path and prides himself on his own personal promotion machine. Without the help of a major record company or radio plugger, Donae’o has cemented himself as a ‘one to watch’ for 2010, after performing at countless PA’s up and down the country and a coveted spot at 2009’s Glastonbury festival. *  Riot Music was never released as a single, but in Novemer 2009, Zane Lowe surprisingly picked up on the track, making it his ‘Hottest Record In The Universe’ and continuing to support it over the following months. The interest and buzz has continued to build, and in early Dec 2009, Riot Music was pulled from the digital bundle of the Party Hard album and signed to Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy label. Since then, Shy has tweaked the radio mix and also roped in none other than Skream and The Nextmen for some remix pressure. Already a favourite with Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Mista Jam, and continuing to win supports across the board, Riot Music is set to be one of THE big records for 2010! [2/8/2010]

Ginz & Kool Money Kwame : Wetwipe Riddim : Earwax : 12"

Finish copies. 2009 saw the world taken by storm as the Bristol born sound of Purple w0w! infiltrated sound systems and radio stations with it's catchy synth lines and bold approach. Focus so far has mainly been on Joker who ripped up the rule book and laughed hard at it, but a number of the big floor filler productions that helped make his name, such as the anthem 'Purple City', were co-produced by the more mysterious Ginz. Exclusively for Earwax Ginz unleashes a plate of bouncing messed up wonky-synth-hopdubstep- purple-whizzle with help on the buttons this time from the even more mysterious Kool Money Kwame. 'Wetwipe Riddim' is a Hennessy-hugging monster of a beat, showcasing Ginz's superb production ethic and musical mastery – it's both demented and catchy in equal measures! Martyn [Ben Klock / Illum Sphere] : Remixes 2/2 : 3024 : 12"

The second half of the Great Lengths Remixes package offers 3 more vividly contrasting interpretations of album tracks .Almost a year on from the release of his debut album "One" and with 'Saviour of Techno' plaudits still bouncing off concrete walls, Berghain lynchpin Ben Klock turns in a remix of Is This Insanity that distills everything inspirational about both the club and city he calls home. Spaceape's cracked vocal is welded to a sort of cavernous piston driven groove while traces of the original's melody fractured into the briefest of shards fight their way to the surface only to sink back into the percussive smog. Located well outside of the heavily scrutinised UK hype centres, Manchester's rising star Illum Sphere continues to hone his already distinct sound on the flipside's Brilliant Orange reworking. A clanking off kilter groove rubs up against an extended mutation of the original melody that pushes the track towards a poignant climax, evoking all the ache of reaching for the stars and landing squarely on one's face. a Martyn Ft. Zinc & Benga feat. Ms Dynamite : Wile Out / My DJ : Zinc Music : 12"

Limited edition promo Vinyl. The single’s lead track Wile Out is a hypnotic, highly addictive workout featuring triple-MOBO, double- Brit and Mercury Music Prize winner Ms Dynamite switching effortlessly between soulful singing and rapid-fire ragga chat. Prior to its rebirth with added vocals, the instrumental version appeared as Crack House EP opener, Blunt Edge. Wobblebass flipside My DJ also features the production prowess of Benga. Since the early crossover success of Night and subsequent debut album Diary Of An Afro Warrior, dubstep don Benga has gone on to produce for Eve and is readying a recorded incarnation of his previously live-only Magnetic Man project with Artwork and Skream. The release reflects not only Zinc’s reinvigorated, refreshed approach but also the current revitalized adventurous spirit of dance music in general – a welcome shift leading to undefined, hybrid sounds and crosscollaborations. [HENCH012]

Lost : Ironhide / Slaughtered : Hench : 12"

Finish copy. Born and bred in Croydon, 19-year old Justin Cantor, a.k.a Lost, is the latest addition to the acclaimed HENCH crew. Somewhat of a child prodigy, Justin started DJ-ing at an early age, and got his first set of decks aged 12. It was not long before Justin’s attention was caught by the burgeoning dubstep movement; inspired by the sounds of Skream and Digital Mystikz’s, he turned his hand to dubstep production early in 2008. Soon after, his debut release came out on Hatcha & N-Type’s ‘Croydon Dubheads’ EP. He recently was named alongside Emalkay and 16 Bit as one to watch in Radio 1xtra’s ‘Future Sound of Dubstep’. We’re proud to present Lost’s debut release on the Hench imprint and are sure that you’ll enjoy it. A. IRONHIDE - Lost creates a seriously atmospheric mood from the start in Ironhide, building to a subtle drop of one mean reverbed wobbly bassline. A real creeper of a tune, the open hi-hat progresses throughout, giving way to a double time feel that’ll keep heads nodding. This is one serious weapon for your bag! AA. SLAUGHTERED - Flip over for another bass-led rhythm, from Lost. Pushing a different tone from the A side (yet no less menacing), ‘Slaughtered’ immediately surrounds you with its rolling filtered wobble. This is one futuristic sounding bass riff. An echoey drum loop helps create an ambience and suspense to this track. With such a distinct vibe, you’re guaranteed to have the crowd putting their screwface’s on when this gets dropped. DJ Support for both tracks from: Hatcha, N-type, Jakes, Skream, Chef, Beezy, Shiverz, Darkside (Getdarker), Tubby (Newham Generals), Mista Jam (BBC 1Xtra) These tracks from will feature in the HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1 (Due early 2010). The compilation is to be mixed by Jakes and will feature unreleased tracks from Papa ‘ench too. The release will also contain VIP’s of Jakes, Komonazmuk, Chasing Shadows, Lost and Giant, aswell as providing a platform for debut releases on the label from Minus, Tek-one and Mensah. [12/14/2009]

Asusu : Small Hours / Taurean : Project Squared : 12"

A Techno and Dubstep label, formed mid 2009. Project Squared aims to release 12” vinyl and download projects that are dance floor focused, that test new ground and that have depth as well as impact. We release music that covers the space between Techno and Dubstep as well as music that stays more firmly within those two genres. Created as a sub-label of Project Mooncircle due to a change in taste from one of the co-ordinators of that label, we were amazed to find two artists (Asusu and Furesshu) that were not signed such was the quality of their music. Still in early stages, the label aims to keep releasing high quality dance music, to gather more artists and to change and evolve as styles change and evolve... Most importantly as our own tastes change and evolve. Project Squared is a sub-label of Project Mooncircle and is affiliated with HHV.de. The label is co-run by Paul Cooper and Gordon Gieseking. Artwork and design is by Gordon Gieseking. Asusu - Now a dubstep producer with his sound tied to the deeper side of things, Asusu has moved from roots in hip hop and trip hop through to garage, dubstep and dub techno. Recently he has received radio play from various DJ’s on Sub FM, Dubstep FM and Reload Radio, and DJ’s himself (dubstep, garage & techno) mainly in Bath and Bristol. His tracks have received accolades in Mixmag and ATM (L.V. and XI’s top ten charts). He currently holds a residency at Rocksteady, Bath’s first monthly dubstep night, and also regularly co-hosts a show on Sub.fm alongside Trigga. [1/18/2010]

James Blake : The Bells Sketch/Buzzard & Kestrel/Give A Man A Rod : Hessle Audio : 12"

Hessle Audio's eleventh release comes from James Blake, a 21-year-old from London, who has previously released for Hemlock Recordings, as well as having an EP in the pipeline for R&S. This three track EP exclusively features his own warped and manipulated vocals. James also joins Mount Kimbie for their live shows, singing as well as playing keyboard. “James Blake's mongrelised, pitch-bent production style finds kinship with dubstep’s Joker and Untold, but his secret weapon is his voice: Blake sings with a sweet, honey-soaked coo that betrays his traditional background in music: one that knew the Family Stone long before it’d heard of FWD>>” - Tom Lea, Fact Magazine Hessle Audio was formed in Leeds in early 2007 by David Kennedy, Ben Thomson and Kevin McAuley. The label has released tunes by TRG, Martyn, Pangaea, Ramadanman / Pearson Sound, Joe and Untold. Headhunter & DJUnya / DJG & XI : El Presidente / Putney Says : Surefire : 12"

Surefire Sound’s second single release features four heavyweight producers representing the UK and North America. This innovative tag-team set brings together dub-tech pioneers collaborating on a pair of earth-moving tracks. Leading off the release is the UK’s Tony Williams, a.k.a. Headhunter, a veteran Bristol producer with numerous releases on Tempa, alongside Joseph S. Hanks Jr, – Djunya to his mates – a stalwart SF artist whose tracks on Narco Hz, Lo Dubs and Eight FX have established him as a major player. Combing the best of their respective spacious and spacey sounds, “El Presidente” is a luminous, rolling track, equipped with pulsating bass and reverberating synth stabs. It’s truly King Tubby-style dub for the 21st century. The track is getting massive advance play from artists like Jus Wan, F and Mary Anne Hobbs, to name a few. SF’s Dean J. Grenier, a.k.a. DJG has risen quickly in the electronic ranks via singles on Tube 10, Subway and Narco Hz that showcase his potent techy tracks. He links up with Toronto, Canada’s XI, whose releases on Formant and Immerse have lead to mixes for Sonic Router and a growing international following. “Putney Says” features an intricate, percussive rhythm that lumbers like a giant, each step punctuated by mountainous bass thumps. Sizzling analog synths, vaporous filtered pads and well-timed drops round out this effective and tension-building work. [BRK014]

Geiom Feat. Marita [Brackles & Shortstuff Refix] : Sugar Coated Lover : Berkane Sol : 12"

Berkane Sol moves into a new decade with the future soul of 'Sugar Coated Lover'. Back in '08 Marita and Geiom blessed the dubstep scene with the certified classic Reminissin', this time they turn their radar towards the vibrant keys and soca style drumz of UK funky. Elements of disco, techno and house wrap themselves around Marita's delicious vocal, with a sweet synthy steel drum melody leading up to the seriously catchy hook. Marita and Geiom take the sounds of house music both old and new and create a sophisticated hybrid that joins the dots between producers like Todd Terry, Luomo and Roska. On the flip the unstoppable Blunted Robots team of Brackles and Shortstuff take the raw elements off to their workshop, clear some space on the bench and begin to rebuild according to their own confused specifications. They fill the CPU of the new machine with the original data, a DJ EZ set and the best bits of early Search and Destroy - after some extensive experimentation we find them both happily shockin' out - until Shortstuff realises that most of the vocal is missing and what's left is severely broken - so they sprinkle on an extra helping of their sweetest arpeggios in the hope that Geiom doesn't notice. This 12" fits perfectly into the creative space that has opened up in UK underground dance music, taking ideas from garage, techno, dub, grime and house and melting them into exhilarating new forms. It has found favour with all the usual suspects including - Skream, Mary Anne Hobbs, Rob Da Bank (Radio1), Kode 9, Scratcha DVA, Oneman, Alexander Nut (RinseFM) and Untold. a Geiom Feat. Sun Ra : On Jupiter : Kindred Spirits : LP

A mixture of live recording and studio post-production, 'On Jupiter' sounds unique to any other album Sun Ra made. The arkestra reflects a disco pulse right back on itself, and delivers one of the most cohesive albums of their career. [ARKST001]

Bflecha : Ceja De Carnival / Kosmic Lovers : Arkestra Discos : 10"

BFlecha has been making some serious noise lately with the certified floor banger 'Ceja de Carnival'.  This is her particular vision of current dirty-south hip hop sprayed with a touch of day-glo psychodelia; like Three Six Mafia playing 808s and flutes on a starry night around a campfire with Gang Gang Dance. It is already receiving strong reactions at the Sonar Festival and plays from DJs including Rustie and Sinden. On the flipside, we find the dreamy raw ballad 'Kosmic Lovers'. A frontal intercourse between the new school 'purple wow' sound coming from Bristol (Joker, Guido, Gemmy) and a palette of burgundies from epic '80s divas like Kate Bush or Laurie Anderson. Here she displays her vocal capabilities over a mish-mash of 8bit arpeggios, sax chops, 80s synth toms, celestial horns and castanets. This creates a retrofuturistic anthem that has already received props from the Hyperdub and Luckyme camps. To complete the package, the artwork features an original oniric painting by Maya Hayuk, one of the most exciting faces of contemporary underground art right now. She has created original artwork for album covers, tour posters and publicity for numerous artists, from Prefuse 73 to Devendra Banhart. All-in-all a beautiful cherry-like slice of wax you can’t afford not to pick! [3/8/2010]

Equalizers feat. Vonesvonic w/ Marchmellow Remix : Don't Rely (On The Radio) : Pure Filth : 12"

For Pure Filth’s next offering our resident veterans the Equalizers are back with a feel-good anthem for everyone who loves the old skool vibe. Don’t Rely (On the Radio)  is a collaboration with London based song-writer Vonesvonic, and is a nostalgic reflection on the golden era of music radio.  Combining the Equalizers deft touch with catchy hooks, club-stepping beats and Vonesvonic’s vocal styling this is a real crowd pleaser which should attract prime time radio play as much as it will dominate dancefloors this year. Calling all raving cru!  On remix duties Wicky Lindow’s Marchmellow turns in a superb dubstep interpretation which makes great use of the vocal with a more blunted approach and a fantastically deep half-time drop. A squelchy bassline twists under hypnotic vocal delays all coming together to form a subliminal whole which will suit festival sets or late night parties equally. Blazing!  The final remix in the package comes courtesy of Tomb Crew who are dominating clubland with their eclectic selections influenced by grime, dubstep, jungle and much more. A truly authentic slice of nuskool hardcore with rolling amen breaks, housey keys and a pinpoint, bouncing sub bassline this is a wonderful glimpse into how the rave scene used to sound, updated and elevated to maximum effect. Elite Force : Revamped : U&A : 12"

Right from the word go, when Simon ‘sHack’ Shackleton created Elite Force the moniker became synonymous not only with gilt-edged class but also with the ability to deliver guaranteed club carnage time and time again. Straddling styles and riding roughshod across genre lines, both as a DJ and producer, Elite Force has carved an enviable reputation as an innovator, never staying still creatively long enough to be pigeon holed or trapped in a single scene.     As sHack puts it himself: “I decided to embark on a whole new extension of the re-edit idea looking at creating a number of brand new tracks out of components taken from older tunes… proper mash-ups. Some were born out of simple live jams that evolved into finely tuned studio creations, whilst others were ground-up rebuilds where I was effectively writing new pieces of music using samples from other tracks. There was no fixed way of working and no sacred cows that went un-plundered.”     The result of this new approach is Re:Vamped a seamless excursion through Elite Force’s unique record bag taking in artists as diverse as Danielle Papini, Hugg & Pepp, Classixx and Bassbin Twins. Kicking off with the pounding kicks of Final Whistle sHack takes to the task with relish fusing French funksters Popof and Delon & Daclan with Lee Coombs & Dylan Rhymes before slipping into the euphoric energy of Red Lights & Lasers. Barbar Blaze’s bouncing b-line takes no prisoners as Palmer Brown’s searing a capella from Blaze’s ‘Do You Remember House?’ takes the track into the realms of uncharted mayhem, Harness The Nonsense sees sHack doing just that, entering heads down territory for a run of superlative cuts reassembling recent clubbing history into a whole that effortlessly transcends the sum of its parts. Dissecting elements of Propellerheads, Blatta & Inesha, Wolfgang Gartner and Meat Katie and assimilating them into a world of fierce subs, cavernous beats and incessant leads, before stitching them back together with consummate ease, Re:Vamped is brought to a heavyweight close with a re-reading of Bar 9’s Shaolin Style that underlines Elite Force’s musical vision faultlessly. Troublegum : Body Bug / Sin Critic : Future Perfect : 12"

Troublegum returns to Future Perfect with a new single full of the deep, heavy, electro mayhem you know already from his massive debut single Politricks. Coming at you like a juggernaut on a one way street there is no escape from these punishing, syncopated drums and bass. On the A. side Bodybug a distorted funk riff squeals and squeaks throughout and is punctuated with a bodyhammer kick and snare that will shake your girlfriend’s ass and make you punch the air like a novice. The underlying beauty in this track is the way the riff keeps coming back to floor you each and every time.  The AA. side Sin Citric is a more progressive affair with a build up in the intro that drips like sweat off taught, tanned flesh and drops into a dissolving acid breakdown. The main hook that bursts out of the speakers like an alien Tiger stalking hidden prey will find you, wherever you are, and consume you for lunch. Prepare to be devoured! For the digi-lovers Gorden Zola is a beastly, maniacal, dancehall rampage that oozes quirky melodies and deviant sex-appeal. Rough! Paloma Faith [Jonny L] : Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful : Munk Recordings : 12"

Oh gosh!! Jonny L never fails to impress. Fans of Dillinja around 2000 will love this awesome remix of dancefloor devastation. Great vocal hook on the intro & then the bass takes over. Anthem? Quite possibly, but cetainly a big tune for 2010. Don’t sleep! Flip for “Dreaming” for some typical mellowness in Jonny L fashion. [2/8/2010]

Finish copy. Nusense – Obsessive Compulsive. Ontario, Canada based DJ/Producer Nusense started out listening to House music in the late 80's early 90's. [PHUNK015]

Omar Ft. Estelle : Lay It Down : Phunkfiction : 12"

This Phunkfiction release is not only the 15th release of the label but also a very special one. It features one of the greatest male voices from the UK. With his no.1 hit single 'There's nothing like this' Omar set the mark for modern soul music in the early 90s and since then teamed up with artists like Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone and many others. Phunkfiction now releases a remix of his single 'Lay It Down', which also contains a female rap part by the great Estelle, known from her song 'American Boy' with Kanye West. The remix treatment comes from one of the hottest acts in D&B at the moment: Triad stands for deep and minimalistic Drum & Bass with attitude. These guys are recently gaining massive. Support from ones like Flight, D-Bridge, Goldie, Fabio, Teebee, Alix Perez, Spectrasoul, Instra:mental and many more. Their remix shows impressively how to use soulful lyrics and female raps in a deep and moody drum & bass soundscape. [3/1/2010]

[SGN020]

Spinline : Radioactive / Groove Scam : Shogun Limited : 12"

White label. Spinline are a crew of three producers who have steadily been making a name for themselves since their first releases came to light back in 2005 on labels such as L Plates, Frequency, SOM and Dispatch. Never ones to sleep on talent Shogun now invites them for their debut release on Sgn:Ltd and in keeping with the samurai code it’s absolutely deadly. Hitting things off on the A-side is ‘Radioactive’ with it’s strung-out intro of warm major chords and whiplash snares that set things up for a nasty drop of undulating bass and a sparse break. Echoed vox and distorted synth stabs then follow that warn us to keep away of this throbbing slice of off-kilter D&B but for some reason, you just can’t. ‘Groove Scam’ on the flip is a totally funked up foot skanker by comparison with yet more typically Sgn:Ltd beats but with quirky fx and a bassline that just won’t quit! Fans of the Rockwell and Sabre sounds take note, this one’s for you, completing another awesome 12” for Sgn:Ltd. [3/1/2010]

This one's just the start to any party. "Warehouse dayz LP" is next. [3/1/2010]

[INSIDE010]

Blocks : Tangier / Hollow : Inside : 12"

Tangier - Opening with strings that evoke memories of 'that' Blue Note era of Jungle Drum and Bass, this track fuses lush eastern undertones with the smokey muted trumpets of Jazz's finest. These familiar tones dissolve to present a dubby half tempo groove built on sub bass hits, growling mids and warm reese. A long awaited track championed by the likes of Marcus Intalex and BBC 1xtras Ras Kwame. *  Hollow- A more stripped back and melancholic essence sits at the centre of this track. Spacious strings and electronic hits envelope a switching work out of drums and classic breaks before the minimal but hypnotic bass draws everything together. Finding a place in the record bags of artists such as Spectrasoul, Alix Perez and Sabre -The lone vocal before the drop echoes this pieces forlorn sentiment.... "Baby, don't go".. [3/1/2010]

Technique's newest signings come correct again here with two hulking, swaggering slices of hybrid dance floor napalm. *  They've only been around a minute, but the Midland's Dub Foundation have already carved out their own little niche in drum & bass, epitomised perfectly on this release. Both tunes feature pounding, shuffling, half-speed breaks and the kind of low-end frequencies that get internal organs shaking. [3/1/2010]

[AMS01]

A Made Up Sound : Rework / Closer : A Made Up Sound : 12"

Repressed! After his recent release on Clone A Made Up Sound (aka 2562) presents his new platform for his own beat freakery. It is no news anymore that Dave Huismans is one talented guy! His debut 2562 album was one of last years highlights.. and his new album set for early winter 09 will be not create a smaller buzz! In the meanwhile mr Huismans also managed to squeeze out some killer tracks out of his machines for his A Made Up Sound project! These 2 tracks will get a limited run on his newly started label. 'Rework' started out as a sneaky bonus remix but ended up as a killer techno track in its own right, with stomping 4/4 beats, an irresistibly simple 3 note chord melody and gut-wrenching sub bass. Contrasting is 'Closer' on the flip, where a yearning vocal stab spirals around a warm synth line that just keeps on building over signature punchy broken beats and a big b-line, all the way until its climaxing breakdown. Highly recommended! [11/9/2009]

Desto : Desto EP : Noppa : 12"

Finish copy promo. "Tes La Rok kicks off the year for his Noppa label with a versatile four track EP from up & coming producer Desto. ‘Wizard Of Wor’ discharges concentrated SID-chip energy and mutant rhythm syncopations with ruthless sub-bass and a side order of pixelated gangster vibes. ‘Gremlinz’ ventures into the realm of 8-bit monsters fusing hiphop and grime aesthetics with chippy Commodore 64 bleeps and analogue synths for a definite dancefloor weapon. On the flipside, ‘Dark Matter’ creeps in with techy stabs, dubstep rhythmics and ice cold atmospheres. To top it off, the much-anticipated ‘Cold (refix)’ delves into the dark and atmospheric side of future garage before unleashing lush melodies from the frozen streets of Helsinki. Finish Copy Promo’s. Dub Police comes with the goods again. This time its the turn of one of dubstep's founding fathers D1, here to show them what its all about. 'Jus Business' has been finding its way into the sets of all the big hitters lately. With its dark rave stabs, tripping jungle beats and pounding sub bass its not hard to see why - serious business from D1. Things couldn't be more contrasting on the flip with the energetic party roller 'Pitcher'. Skipping beats and a quirky lead line, with funky esq. melodies and soulful grooves - a really bouncing track. RSD : Naked Mariokart / Naked Mariokart - Part Two : Black Box : 12"

One of the godfathers of the Bristol music scene, Rob Smith aka RSD is currently riding a wave of popularity generated by the interest both in Dubstep and the ‘Bristol Sound’. Black Box is pleased to be releasing one of his most in-demand dubplates. Utilising a highly infective vocal for the backbone of ‘Naked Mariokart’, RSD builds a tough stepper around the sample, as he shoehorns tunnelling midrange and soaring melody over the ground-shaking sub bass. Part Two reworks the elements slightly, dubbing the tune hard for a late night vibe. [3/1/2010]

[RWINA005]

Starkey : Rain City / Beatingz : Rwina : 12"

Following on from massive releases like 'Half Man Half Trout' (Taz Buckfaster) and Freeze Step (South Africa's Playdoe), Rwina welcomes Philly's illest, Starkey, back to the fold. 'Rain City' is one of those tunes that could only be the product of someone at the peak of their powers. How many big dancefloor tracks manage to completely do away with the snare and rely instead on intense synth work to hype the crowd? How many tracks get support from players such as Skream, DJ Oneman and Noah D yet sound like Kraftwerk and Bach jamming on Jupiter before riding a magic rainbow to DMZ? Believe the hype, Rain City is all that. On the flip, 'Beatingz' shows Starkey's complete grasp of dynamics and arrangement, building gradually and subtly until before you know it, what began as some kind of gully-crunk brain-melt riddim has got you rushing your proverbial tits off. Almost too much to take. Heavy support by: Skream, MAH, Plastician, DJ Oneman, Baobinga/Skinnz, Blackdown! [2/8/2010]

[OFFROAD006]

Chimpo : Synthetic / Spekrum Skank : Off Road : 12"

Spring boarding off the radio hit of his Neighbourhood remix, Manchester heavyweight dub champion Chimpo kicks down the door with 2 Glitch funk smashers. *  Synthetic is a straight shot of pure robotoid dance floor funk. Opening with an infectious synth melody reminiscent of bygone sci-fi soaps the listener is ill prepared for the explosive drop. The Matrix glitches as the eye watering distorted bass is projectile vomited by the reluctant speakers. All this futuristic sound-scaping is underpinned by enough kick drum thump to maintain Chimpo’s trademark rudebwoy swagger. Spekrum Skank again we journey into the near future with basslines set to warp 9 and rolling snares exploding into pixelated shards of sound. With more than a little classic 2 step wiggle Spekrum Skank delivers on both the soundsystem and at the hazy smokeout speaker. [3/1/2010]

1000names : Paradise Rings / Saturn Race : Team Acre : 10"

This record is strictly limited to 500 on green vinyl. Bulgarian stargate navigators, 1000names make their Team Acre debut with 2 snippets of tomorrow’s party… Paradise Rings: Intentions are stated as discofied falsetto samples burst out the speaker ushering in a kick/snare tag-team with the melee skills of 80’s WWF legends the Bushwackers. Add to this potential cocktail of science-funk a weighty rolling bass groove, surgical editing techniques and you have a b-boy anthem to bump in your flying hover jeep.  Saturn Race: Is more cerebral with its retro-futurist arpeggio synth lines and murmured sci-fi samples. Drums crawl out of a Martian cave and slugglishly stomp their way across the track providing the perfect foundation for 1000names many sonic artefacts.  Support: Mary Anne Hobbs, Alexander Nut, Benji B, Debruit [3/1/2010]

Finish copy. Hessle Audio co-owner Pangaea and 2009 newcomer James Blake deliver two wildly different but utterly sick remixes on a double A-sided 10". Side a. Untold - Stop What You're Doing (James Blake Remix) James Blake proves why he's one of the most exciting and promising new prospects in UK bass music right now. Taking the bare bones of the Untold original and creating a completely new lick, Blake throws in p-funk synths alongside chipmunk gospel vocals that relentlessly swell to an apocalyptic climax. Untold - I Can't Stop This Feeling (Pangaea Remix) The Hessle Audio co-owner comes with his hypest, rudest most surprising tune to date. [STEAK002]

Monkey Steak : Hyped Up : Steak House : 12"

The newly formed Steak House Records bring some much-needed carnival fire for these winter months, their sights firmly on the Trinidad carnival season. Label owners Atki2 and Hanuman take the helm on this release, enlisting the vocal talents of MC Zulu on the EP’s standout lead track ‘Hyped Up’. The party continues on the flip, with the psychedelic funky of ‘Haarlem Drift’ and the Arabic folky heater ‘Tigris Riddim’, already a firm favourite with Toddla T. Mashing up global riddims and bass heavy genre bending ruffness, they incorporate sounds from bassline to bashment, grime to dubstep to funky to soca and back again! A1: Hyped Up feat MC Zulu is an instant party classic. Featuring the formidable vocal talents of the original badman MC Zulu. This tune is pure Soca Fire. A2: Bombeiros! is the riddim of Hyped Up and a huge tune in its own right. Chromatic Bass and galloping Soca Beats raise the temperature on this tropical banger. One for the Airhorns Crew! B1: Tigris Riddim. As featured on Toddla T.’s Fabriclive:47 mix. Fragments of Iraqi folk music collide with bubbling bass and tuff bashment beats. Global Bass at its finest. B2: Haarlem Drift is a psychedelic funky anthem. Dreamy synths and punishing sub bass weave themselves around a broken tribal rhythm. Featured in Chrissy Murderbot’s massive Mad Decent Mixtape. Sinden, DJ Mag - “There couldn’t be a more fitting title for this second 12” from the Steak House crew. Aided by the vocal firepower of MC Zulu, the lead cut is guaranteed tropical dynamite for the right kind of crowd. On the flip the tunes take a slightly deeper turn, with the heavyweight bass and slimline rhythm of ‘Tigris Riddim’ capturing the atmosphere of primal, minimal jungle at a slower BPM”. Oli Warwick, IDJ - “Chew on a couple of amphetamines, mainline the Red Bull and pop some Nicorette patches under your eyelids; this is pumped Kuduro-esque madness. Party party!” Markle, DJ Mag - “Hot on the heels of STEAK 001, praised by everyone from Thom Yorke to Sinden comes another 12” of karnival heat from Hanuman and Atki2’s Steak House imprint”. Clash Magazine - “Its only STEAK 002, but Steak House threaten to build a distinctive voice. The title track from label bosses Hanuman and Atki2 is a soca/bashment speedbomb featuring hired gun MC Zulu, while ‘Tigris Riddim slows to (b)ass-wiggling dancehall speed and ‘Haarlem Drift’ gets the melodius funk. Everyone from Toddla T to Thom Yorke are on this lot. Best have a butchers”. Support From Sinden, 2562, Toddla T, Poirier,Baobinga, Murderbot, Roska, Starkey, Bok Bok, Dub Boy, a1 Monkey Steak Ft. [CHST008]

Distance : Menace / Beyond : Chestplate : 12"

Chestplate presents a pair of crushing singles from one of dubstep's original heavy hitters: Distance. Both tunes have been highly anticipated; with "Menace" having been featured on Caspa's Radio 1 Essential Mix, as well as Pinch's Tectonic Plates Volume 2 mix CD. "Menace" is a mean half-stepper that trudges along with distorted heavy-metal guitars, crisp percussion and dark, grimy synths. It is eclipsed by "Beyond" on the flipside: A truly eyes-down riddim, marching forth into the darkness with its synesthetic tinges of guitar melodies and booming sub-bass. [3/1/2010]

EVS / TMSV : DT08 / Subconscious Brain : Tube10 : 10"

What better way to start 2010 then with a brand new 10 inch of the highest caliber talents the nether lands has seen to date! After 2562 & Martyn it'll be up to EVS & TMSV to represent the Dutch on the dubstep tip! EVS hails from Rotterdam.. the Subway capital of Holland.. By staying unaffected by the jump up or dancefloor style dubstep has adopted in the past few years it shows that EVS has concocted his very own style.. a mixture of IDM, Trip Hop and even DnB perfectly rolled into 1 production.. DT08. The flip holds Utrecht talent TMSV. A guy who'll you hear alot more about. His DMZ infused sound is one to watch for the future as he already has gained the support of people like Distance & Mala... [HDB031]

Terror Danjah : Acid / Pro Plus Ft. DOK : HyperDub : 12"

Hyperdub has long been a fan of grime don Terror Danjah's razor sharp productions, his unparalleled, skittering rhythm science, deadly riffs, brilliant technicolour synth squiggles, “gremlin cackle” signature and general ear for a catchy tune. On this first EP for the label, he showcase two strains of his many skills. 'Acid' cranks up the energy, with an ascending synth crashing into stuttering drums and synths. They play hide and seek with each other for a bit, before the track unexpectedly breaks into a 4 / 4 house rhythm, and then shatters into pieces again. On the flipside, 'Pro Plus', Terror is joined by long time collaborator DOK for a slice of their classic sound - an infectious, twisted sickly sweet synth melody wrapped around syncopated, stop start drums to mean effect [3/1/2010]

Funckarma : Dubstoned 3 : Eat Concrete : 12"

Dubstoned 3 is the long due follow up in a series of dubstep based releases by Funckarma. Dubstoned 3 will be released in limited editions on vinyl.  Dubstoned 3 is equally intelligent as it is rude. Funckarma arranges light melodic tones with bass-heavy beats on this 4 (or 6) track EP. The mid tempo rhythms and sounds contrast beautifully with the crushing beats and clear production, typical of Funckarma's style. Dubstoned 3 brings more of Funckarma's unique sonic vision of breakbeat and dubstep styles, coming up with another cutting edge addition to the Dubstoned series. The digital edition of Dubstoned 3 features an exclusive Herrmutt Lobby remix, 'Nays of Dight' and a bonus track: 'Solaz Flair'. Roommate / G31 : Ras Vibes / Pity : Stupid Fly : 12"

G31 is a Glasgow based dubstep producer. This will be his debut release but his versatile, reggae-influenced production has and will continue to receive a lot of play around the globe in 2010. As "Pity" gains momentum it will become a staple track for many spring and summertime sets to come. This track is not only a crowd pleaser, but has a distinct, crisp and bass-drenched drop. The smooth vocal sample moves at a steady pace and tells a story of it's own. As the name suggests, it's a pity there aren't more seamlessly blended vocal tracks with bass-heavy drives like this one. Complimenting the "AA" side of this record, this track is the heavier of the two. [3/1/2010]

[WL010]

Dubterror : Chatty Chatty / I'm Leaving : Wicky Lindows : 12"

Dubterror is a music producer and sound engineer from Turin, an industrial city in the north of Italy. His deep passion for sound led him to London and the study of Sonic Art where he learnt sonic manipulation techniques and mixing desk improvisation.  It was in the UK capital that he conceived and realised the Dub Terror production suite.  His approach to making music is freeform and instinctive, usually preparing multi-tracks, recording several versions and only then choosing the one that his instinct leads him towards, in the style of the dub pioneers. He plays with the mixing desk as if it was part of the music, like a director, and produces the final track as creating a story. He sees each instrument as a different character, bringing its own personality to interact with other instruments, as actors do in a play. Dubterrors debut release on Wicky Lindows is a dance floor banger that holds no prisoners and the b -side is a homage to his roots as a DUB specialist with 'Im Leaving'... [3/1/2010]

[CRIT042]

Break : Late Drop / Crunchy : Critical : 12"

2009 has been a good year for Critical, having built yet further on its reputation as being one of the most forward-thinking underground drum and bass labels in the scene. Appearances from Spectrasoul, Sabre, Serum & Vapour paved the way for the heavily acclaimed Critical Sound compilation that saw label boss Kasra representing the ‘Future of D&B’ at Fabric’s 10th birthday and even guesting on BBC Radio 1. Now just in time for Christmas Critical serve up one last delicious 12” before the new year from the mighty Break. Smooth’s the word as ‘Late Drop’ gets under way with lazy-day pads and a light stepping break that runs through the DJ-friendly intro all the way to the breakdown. Wait for the typically gnarly Breakbass though and then it’s throttle down, away we go on this late night tech-roller that oozes class and sees Critical’s eyes set firmly on the dance floor once again. ‘Crunchy’ kicks off with some interesting orchestration and a simple stepping break that flowsunderneath jungle samples and a distant vocal. It’s all about the distorted b-line though as Break doeswhat he does best letting it worm its way into your psyche. No-nonsense D&B to move your feet. [2/22/2010]

Upbeats / Uman & No Money : Tor / Requiem : Bad Taste : 12"

Since their debut album on Bad Taste in 2007, The Upbeats have built up a massive following of D&B purists around the world. Releases on world renowned labels like Virus and Soul-r, as well as a recent album on their own Non Vogue label have ensured ever increasing interest in their music. Following on from massive tracks on the first two Bad Taste compilations they had a lot to live up to, and they don't disappoint. 'Tor' is a classic slice of rolling D&B which Brazilian superstar DJ Marky described as 'techy but funky, simple, but a killer', need I say more! Uman makes his debut on Bad Taste alongside No Money and rounds off volume III in fine style with 'Requiem'. With releases under his belt on Viper and Timeless as a solo artist already, Uman is now part of Blokhe4d, an exciting new project coming in 2010. [2/22/2010]

[SGN019]

Need For Mirrors ft. Zero T : Tilt / Wasted Youth : Shogun Limited : 12"

Shogun’s sister label SGN:LTD continues to burn the candle at both ends partying hard like all younger siblings do and with yet another blistering release it’s easy to see how it keeps getting away with it! Catalogue number 19 sees the debut of V Recordings’ Mosus as he opens the doors on a new collaborative project with fellow producer HLX entitled Need For Mirrors. Teaming up with Zero T for ‘Tilt’ the order of day is that low-down dirty funk that has become so synonymous with the camp. Warm atmospherics push air into the lungs from the off before a huge warped drop of bass and one ton kicks wrestle to take it all back as things get cold and deadly. Definitely one to keep the Shogun soldiers on their toes. Then rolling out nicely on the flip is ‘Wasted Youth’ with some more strictly digital beats that sound nothing short of heinous when pumping from a system in full flow. With a killer vocal refrain and a heavy endorsement from Friction you know this is one not to miss. A lot more to come from Need For Mirrors, no doubt. Support from Friction, Goldie, Doc Scott, Alix Perez, Storm, Fabio, Logistics, Zero T, Spectrasoul, Sabre, Lenzman and many more. [2/22/2010]

Sonic : Piano Anthem / In The Vortex : Hospital : 12"

After appearances on Hospital’s massive Weapons of Mass Creation Series and as an ex-pat on the Future Sounds of Tokyo project, Jasper Byrne comes back home to Cambridge and presents his debut 12” released on Hospital. Piano Anthem as the title suggests features all the key ingredients you would expect in a future dance floor classic. Euphoric build, piano chord hook and awesome vocals, provided by none other than Diane Charlemagne. Having already smashed it’s way onto BBC Radio 1's “official start to the weekend” and fast becoming a must play records for DJs at Hospitality and beyond, don’t wait on this one. If the a-side is an uppercut “In The Vortex” is a brutal left hook Expect some uncompromising bassline pressure from Sonic. Each with their own formidable history that goes way back to day one in Drum and Bass, this release heralds the return of one of the scenes most respected labels with a revamped look and vibe. MASS HYSTERIA: An Amen old skool lasher, with all the energy that’s well known from Moving Fusion that blends with Ant Miles’ emotion-laden lead lines, atmospherics and unique style synth stabs. It’s massive build up to the tear out drop destroys dancefloors worldwide. This track instantly gained massive support from the DnB elite with the likes of Pendulum, Fresh & Hype (which he played on his Kiss FM show), not forgetting Andy C and all the Ram crew. Chook : The Cocoon Sampler : Full Force : 12"

Drumz of the Damned - Album Sampler 1 the first of three 12” taken from the album. The CD & Digital version of “Drumz of the Damned” will be released on Feb 15th. The perfect follow up to “Once Bitten Twice High”. It continues the deep journey into the world of Vampire Records. This time it has 22 exclusive tracks and 2 remixes. It will take you on a journey through many different moods and styles of Drum and Bass. From Light to Dark this album has everything! Once Again! Get bitten!!! The concept behind Vampire Records is the relation between the nocturnal behavior of Clubbers and Vampires. Vampire has constant evolution and is a platform for established artists and up and coming talent. The birth of the label was at the end of 2006. It has grown from strength to strength over the last couple of years. Vampire is still growing to this day but it has staying power in the world of Drum and Bass. It is up to its 10th single release and on April 1st 2009 it released its first label album “Once Bitten Twice High”. All releases on the label are still selling which proves that the music has shelf life and is non-disposable. It was very important to Phil Source at the birth of the label that it would have credibility with the old school, as well as the new breed of Drum and Bass fan. [2/22/2010]

Dabs & Wrath / Nphonix & Enei : Who’s Gonna Lead? / Shadowdancer : Icarus : 12"

Icarus Audio brings forth quality over quanity with the third release on the imprint. The ASide features Dabs & Wrath hitting you with a purely infectious, funky roller that slides the shove in all the right ways. The vocal sample sits deep while the bass speaks, add that to a two-step stomp and you've got a floor formula executed with fine precision. DJ supported by several heavy hitters and featured in Maztek's mix in Knowledge Magazine, you can be sure this tune is ready to start a revolution!! AA-Side: Nphonix + Enei - Shadowdancer: Nphonix and fellow producer Enei team up to deliver a new groove for the flip. This track is a prime example what happens when the strengths of two extremely skilled producers are properly fused together. Nphonix's signature grime and attitude and the deep atmospherics and pressure from Enei really shine through and allow for this tune to be played anywhere, anytime. This tune is rolling and pushing up to the maximum and coupled with a bassline that bounces just right to form the perfect riff guaranteed to rock it all the way out. Subtitles fans, heads up! Lethal & The Sect : Ubik / Whiteout : Surround Sound : 12"

A: Lethal & The Sect - Ubik - Surround Sound is proud to bring you the long awaited collaboration between Lethal and the Sect. A slamming slice of Techno influenced Drum and Bass, creeping synths and bleeps ease through the atmosphere before opening up to pounding subs and twisted midrange. The beats are relentless and rolling, keeping the funk moving throughout this pure dancefloor destroyer. AA: The Sect - Whiteout - Another storming track brought to you from the Sect. This one opens up with sci-fi pads setting the scene for a dizzying build. When the drop comes it hits hard and disorientates with looping, tearing basses and pulsing beeps. The breaks keep things moving as the b-movie vibes take hold, pulling the listener down spinning into the whiteout.... [2/22/2010]

Smash Brothers : 'So Be It /Technofear : Cold Blooded : 12"

After the massive success of the first release on his brand new imprint Cold Blooded Recordings, Crystal Clear returns for the second instalment. Teaming up with Cutterz Choice Rhythm Beater this dynamic duo is otherwise known as Smash Brothers, and when you listen to their first release you'll instantly know why! Straying from the sound both of them are most widely known for this debut blows away and misconceptions that this label was going to be sticking to any sound or formula. So Be It is a rolling slice of techno influenced funk that would slide into almost any prime time set. A cool, calm intro gradually builds with a catchy old skool influenced riff filters through before building up to a punchy, sub shaking drop. Technofear takes things one step further and gets darker and dirtier than the flip. This one will have the Smash Brothers smashing holes in speakers wherever its played as tight drums, low end stabs and a marching step to the bass means this is one militant piece of dancefloor ammunition! Rollz : Plugged In / Voice Of The Mysterons : Formation : 12"

A: ROLLZ - PLUGGED IN Smashing dance floors across the country at the hands of some the scene's biggest names such as High Contrast, Fabio, Andy C and Grooverider - 'Plugged In' has seen unparalleled support and popularity within the UK music world. This electric roller has even been picked up by Radio 1's own Zane Lowe as one of his top ten hottest tracks in the world! Opening with a rich, energetic sweeping intro, the track drops into a high-octane upbeat smasher. It's crystal clear bass sounds rise and push through the melody with a unique warmth that will have the hairs on the back of you neck standing on end. B: ROLLZ - VOICE OF THE MYSTERONS On the flipside 'The Voice Of The Mysterons' has all the characteristics of a powerful jump-up club anthem. It's dark stabbing drums are a stark antithesis to the warmth and energy of 'Plugged In'. An eerie grinding synth rolls through the main body of the tune whilst a forceful muted kick drum and  crushing bassline rises and drops with a force that could rival the mightiest of earthquakes. This one will have the walls shaking! Raffertie 'Pumpin Like Reeboks/Vomit Riddim' [2/22/2010]
